Tidbits on Theological Education
I read with interest the Summer 2006 issue of The Commission magazine, a publication of the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The topic of IMB President Dr. Jerry Rankin's article is "Training and multiplying leaders"
Dr. Rankin is reminding his constituency that the IMB has always been involved in Theological Education as an intentional objective, and that the IMB is not abandoning traditional theological education.
However, he does make the following observation: "Some think we should emulate American seminary programs. However, a small minority of those called to ministry in Third World countries and non-Christian cultures are educationally qualified for seminary-level studies. The vast majority of those called as pastors have minimal educations. We must take theological education to them where they are and at their level."
Thank you, Aquila Friend and Partner, for understanding the validity of our vision to Equip and Encourage Sacrificial Servants!
Continue to pray for us as we develop curriculum modules that are relevant for those who are under-educated and speak to their training needs. Pray for the pastors and leaders who attend our equipping institutes that they may be filled with Wisdom and Knowledge.
