Wonderful Partners
We are so incredibly grateful for the wonderful partners in ministry that God has blessed us with. Two years ago we would have only dreamed to be connected with such wonderful people.
Let me tell you about one of them. (Perhaps next week, Jeff will provide some information about our partners in Myanmar).
Nivath (pronounced: NEEH-WAT) is our partner and Coordinator for our work in Cambodia. He is 35 years old, and President of the Cambodia Baptist Convention. He is married to Sithong, and has two great children: Zacharias and Zacharlip (don't ask, cause I'm not sure).
During our last trip to Cambodia (Nov. 2004) Zacharlip was 4 months old - so he is now 10 months old (isn't that 'new math' great). Zacharlip was ill - and we found out that he had a repiratory virus. As we were leaving to come home, Nivath and Sithong were placing him in a private hospital. We were able to leave enough money to pay for the added expense. It's good to be able to help your friends.
Nivath works to set up our Institutes. He has a vision that we are in four different regions in Cambodia each year. His passion is to help the church expand, and he believes the key is to build into leader's lives.
Nivath translates materials from English to Khmer for us. He also serves as our travelling companion, and translator during our workshops. Often, he will translate for us for 7 or more hours a day. There are others who could translate to English, but often we are dealing with theological concepts, and Nivath understands those concepts and wants to make sure the translation is done correctly.
Nivath lived through the "killing fields" of the mid-1970's, and his Father and Uncle were killed by the followers of Pol Pot.
Nivath had catarac surgery last year on one eye. We were able to discover someone who sponsored that surgery. TNivath had catarac surgery last year on one eye. We were able to discover someone who sponsored that surgery.
The funny thing about Nivath is that he never gets in a hurry. We can be crossing the main street in Phnom Penh (imagine a four lane highway that motorists have decided should be an ten lane highway - with thousands of motorbikes, hundreds of autos, and a few trucks thrown in going in all directions) and Nivath just saunters across.
Pray for Nivath and his family as he leads the work of Aquila and the Baptist Convention. Pray that God will grant him wisdom, Pray that he will be protected from the attacks of Satan, pray for his families health, pray that God will prosper his family.
The Aquila Project will be returning to Cambodia in June - and we are looking for finanical partners to invest in the lives of Pastor's and church leaders there.
